Oxazepam is used to treat anxiety and also acute alcohol withdrawal. This medication belongs to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines which act on the brain and nerves (central nervous system) to produce a calming and an anti-seizure effect.
It was found that 25 mg oxazepam induced sleep faster than placebo, and that the subjects awoke less often during the treatment period. The total amount of REM-sleep was not affected. However, REM-sleep was shortened during the first part of the night and extended during the latter part of the night.
Those with a history of psychosis should not be prescribed oxazepam. 3 Likewise, the medication should be avoided in anyone with a history of addictive behavior. An exception, of course, is when the medication is used for alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
How long should you take oxazepam for?
Oxazepam is prescribed for the short term (maximum of 2-4 weeks) treatment of anxiety, which is disabling or distressing and may be associated with sleeplessness or other illnesses. This medicine should be used for as short a time as possible and should not be used for more than four weeks.

Imovane is used to help people over 18 years of age with sleeping difficulties, also called insomnia. It can help you fall asleep and to reduce the number of times you wake up during the night. It is used for short term treatment (7-14 days) of insomnia.
How much Imovane can you take?
Zopiclone tablets come in 2 different strengths: 3.75mg and 7.5mg. The usual dose is one 7.5mg tablet, taken just before you go to bed. It takes around 1 hour to work. A lower dose of 3.75mg may be recommended to begin with if you're over 65 years old or have kidney or liver problems.
How long does it take for Imovane to kick in?
Zopiclone takes around 1 hour to work. You might feel sleepy or confused in the first few days after taking zopiclone. Do not drive a car, ride a bike, or use tools or machines until you know how zopiclone affects your ability to do these activities.
What are side effects of Imovane?
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:
behaviour changes (e.g., excitement, hyperactivity, violent behavior)
clumsiness or unsteadiness (more common for seniors)
confusion (more common for seniors)
daytime anxiety or restlessness.

Acute withdrawal can result in physiological and psychological effects, and a dose reduction strategy that aims to slowly wean patients off benzodiazepines and zopiclone is best practice. It is usual to be prescribed one tablet (7.5 mg) to be taken just before going to bed. Do not take more than one dose during a single night. Does zopiclone affect you the next day?
Patients taking zopiclone should be warned that their ability to drive or operate dangerous machinery may be impaired the next day. Effects on driving performance may be significantly impaired for at least 11 hours after taking the medicine
